Connect with Your Audience Through Inspiring Visual Storytelling

We Are a Mental Health
Music Video Initiative

Research has deepened our understanding of wellness & mental health, but that research often fails to reach the people it seeks to help. This may especially be the case among young people. My proposed PhD thesis, addresses this problem by taking academic research on mental wellness and coping skills and, with the help of young people, repackaging it into digital content of short social media videos aiming to maximize its reach and impact. Professor Matthias Schwannauer, Head of School of Health in Social Science at the University of Edinburgh, who specializes in adolescent mental health, will guide the educational aspects and Amy Hardie of Edinburgh College of Art who is a world renowned documentary filmmaker will guide the production of these short videos.

What We Do

Production

This project is planned to determine how best to approach young people to co-design and to view videos on mental health. Seven meetings and interviews are proposed targeting young people and those who work with young people.

We aim to obtain a specific understanding of 1. Young people’s experience with and selection of wellness topics and their coping skills 2. Their currently preferred social media video styles, and 3. Ways in which they would best engage in co-creation and or voluntary self motivated dissemination of such videos.
